Compare the product with a known item, not a memory.
For clothing, place a garment that already fits on a flat surface and record the same points used in the listing or QC image. For shoes, use a model whose internal length and toe shape you know. For bags, compare external dimensions and the objects you actually carry.
Body measurements, garment measurements, labelled sizes, and flat measurements are not interchangeable. Write which method produced each number so a later comparison does not mix them.
Match the measurement to the decision.

Normalize units and keep a tolerance.
Convert all candidates into one unit before comparing. Keep the original number beside the converted one when possible, because a copied conversion can introduce error. Measurement methods and soft materials also create small differences, so define an acceptable range rather than treating one number as perfectly exact.
Record “target,” “acceptable range,” and “measured or stated.” This separates your preference from the evidence supplied by the listing.
Resolve conflicting size information before choosing.
A listing chart, seller note, warehouse measurement, and user comment may describe different items or methods. Put each value in a separate row with its source, date, unit, selected option, and measurement method. Give the most weight to a measurement tied clearly to the exact item and size you are comparing.
If two credible measurements still disagree, widen the uncertainty rather than averaging them into a false answer. Check whether one value is a body recommendation and the other is a flat garment measurement, whether fabric stretch affects the result, or whether a later product revision may use a different cut.
Work from the use case backward.
Need: a hoodie worn over a T-shirt, with a similar feel to a current 58 cm chest-width garment.
Target: 57–60 cm flat chest width, enough sleeve length, and no unusually short body length.
Decision: candidate A stays because measured chest and length are visible; candidate B returns to research because only an S/M/L chart is shown.
Do not force the answer
“Measurement missing” is a useful conclusion.
If fit is central and the needed number is absent, mark the row as unresolved. A familiar size label, model photo, or confident review cannot replace the missing measurement for your specific comparison.
